Media Contact: Jeffrey McCracken, 916-978-5100, 05/04/2006 18:30

For Release: May 04, 2006

The Bureau of Reclamation is requesting comments on a Draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI). Reclamation is adopting the Army Corps of Engineers' June 2005 Final Environmental Assessment (EA) entitled "McCarran Ranch - Truckee River 1135 Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Project, Washoe and Storey Counties, Nevada." The agency is proposing to partially fund the restoration project, and is therefore adopting the EA with the addition of technical and administrative clarifications and minor EA modifications.

The EA evaluates river, riparian, and wetland restoration activities at McCarran Ranch which is owned by The Nature Conservancy. Reclamation concurs with the EA conclusions that the proposed restoration project would not result in any significant adverse effects on the environment and does not require the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement. A final determination on a FONSI will not be made until completion of a 30-day public review process.

Written comments on the Draft FONSI should be submitted by close of business on Monday, June 5, 2006, and can be mailed to Mrs. Caryn Huntt DeCarlo, Bureau of Reclamation, 705 North Plaza Street, Room 320, Carson City, NV 89701-4015, faxed to 775-882-7592, or e-mailed to chunttdecarlo@mp.usbr.gov. For information on the restoration project, please contact Mrs. Huntt DeCarlo at 775-884-8352. The Draft FONSI and a memorandum listing modifications to the EA may be viewed online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=2188. If you encounter problems accessing documents online, please contact Ms. Lynnette Wirth at 916-978-5102 or e-mail lwirth@mp.usbr.gov.
