The Bureau of Reclamation will limit access to five popular parks near Black Canyon Dam beginning May 8 due to construction work. The new construction improvements will ensure each of the parks are fully compliant with federal accessibility laws. The dam is located on the Payette River about 5 miles northeast of Emmett, Idaho.

The five parks to be improved are: Wildrose, Black Canyon, Triangle, Montour, and Cobblestone.

Two of the most popular parks, Wildrose and Black Canyon parks may remain open on weekends, but be closed during the week for public safety while construction crews are working to meet deadlines.

"We had to delay construction due to the heavy rains and high river flows that prevented work crews from being on location," said Robert Adams, Black Canyon Dam facility manager. "Since the rainy season may not be over, we are asking the public to stay out of restricted areas for their own safety while construction is taking place."

Adams added that he regrets the inconvenience to the public. While it's too early to say when construction will be completed, every effort will be made to reopen these parks as soon as possible.

C-2 Construction, Inc., of Mountain Home, Idaho, was awarded a $260,000 contract to upgrade the facilities. This is a continuation of construction started last year which includes building accessible restroom facilities, pedestrian paths, and picnic sites.
