Reclamation has issued a final Environmental Assessment on the proposed transfer of 200 acre-feet of Central Arizona Project water from Berneil Water Company to the Cave Creek Water Company. Based upon an analysis of existing conditions in the water service areas, any possible environmental impacts, and comments received, a Finding of No Significant Impact has also been issued.

The water service areas of both companies are located in Maricopa County, Ariz. The transfer to Cave Creek Water Co. will increase its total CAP allotment to 1,800 acre-feet. The water company indicates it will use the additional supply to irrigate a golf course within its service area or would treat, deliver and use it as a potable water supply. No new treatment and delivery facilities would be needed.

A draft of the EA was distributed on March 6, 2006, to over 40 entities, including public agencies, tribal governments, interested and/or affected local organizations and private entities, and local newspapers were notified of the opportunity for public comment.

No changes to the draft EA were required. A copy of the draft EA and FONSI can be obtained by calling Reclamation's Environmental Resource Management Division at 623-773-6251, e-mailing rkonst@lc.usbr.gov , or downloading it from the Phoenix Area Office website at http://www.usbr.gov/lc/phoenix/
