For Release: April 17, 2006

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Bureau of Reclamation will continue to increase the stream flows on the Boise River as part of flood control releases that began from Lucky Peak Dam on April 6.

Flows at Glenwood Bridge gauging station will continue to increase to approximately 6,600 cubic feet per second on April 18, 6,800 cfs on April 19, and approximately 7,000 cfs on April 20. Flows of 7,000 cfs at the Glenwood Bridge gauging station are considered to be at flood stage.

Recent precipitation and cool weather has raised the runoff forecast to approximately 140 percent of normal. The increased runoff forecast in the Boise River basin has resulted in the need for further reservoir releases. These releases will help reduce the risk of greater flooding impacts later in the spring, which can occur with warm temperatures, rapidly melting snow, and precipitation.
