Reclamation and PG&E Negotiate Rates for Increased Costs on Battle Creek

Media Contact: Jeffrey McCracken, 916-978-5100, jmccracken@mp.usbr.gov

For Release: April 17, 2006

The Bureau of Reclamation is entering into ratesetting negotiations with Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). The negotiations will determine the amount of reimbursement to PG&E for increased costs they would incur as a result of bypassing instream flows in Battle Creek beyond the amount required by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for the Battle Creek Hydroelectric Project.

The increased instream flows would provide immediate habitat improvement for the Federal and State-listed Chinook salmon and Central Valley steelhead until long-term restoration is implemented on Battle Creek. Reclamation, PG&E, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, NOAA Fisheries Service, and the California Department of Fish and Game are involved in ongoing processes to implement long-term restoration on Battle Creek to benefit fish and wildlife, as authorized under the Central Valley Project Improvement Act.

Reclamation has scheduled a negotiation session as follows:

Sacramento
Wednesday, May 3, 2006
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Federal Building
2800 Cottage Way, Conference Room C-1003

The negotiation session is open to the public. For more information, please call Mr. Dave Gore, Bureau of Reclamation, at 916-978-5300, TDD 916-978-5608, or Ms. Angela Risdon, PG&E, at 415-973-6915.
