For Release: April 13, 2006

The public review and comment period for the Red River Valley Water Supply Project Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), which was to have ended tomorrow, will be extended, according to the Bureau of Reclamations Dakotas Area Manager Dennis Breitzman.

Breitzman said Reclamation and the State of North Dakota, represented by the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District, jointly decided to leave the comment period open while further analysis is done on issues that have been raised in the many public comments received to date.

The DEIS evaluates alternatives to meet the long-term water needs of the Red River Valley in North Dakota and three cities in Minnesota. The document was released for public review and comment on December 28, 2005. The original 60-day comment period was twice extended, most recently to April 14, 2006.

Written comments on the DEIS should be sent to Red River Valley Water Supply Project, Dakotas Area Office, Bureau of Reclamation, P.O. Box 1017, Bismarck, N.D., 58502-1017.
