Boca Dam Road Closure on the Little Truckee River

Media Contact: Jeffrey McCracken, 916-978-5100, jmccracken@mp.usbr.gov

For Release: March 30, 2006

The Bureau of Reclamation has closed the road across Boca Dam located near Truckee, California, to implement the revised security plan for Boca Dam.  In order to implement the plan, Reclamation must prohibit public access on the Reclamation-owned road across the dam under certain conditions.  The actual duration of closure is not known at this time, but will likely last throughout the summer.

Boca Dam and Reservoir, part of Reclamation’s Truckee Storage Project, are located on the Little Truckee River about 6 miles east of Truckee, California, and 27 miles west of Reno, Nevada.  Reclamation identified the need to restrict public access to the dam to help provide protection for the public and lands downstream.
