For Release: March 16, 2006

Three public scoping meetings regarding a Resource Management Plan (RMP) for Lake Tschida are scheduled between March 23 and March 29. They are:

Glen Ullin, N.D. - Thursday, March 23, at the City Auditorium-Blue Room, 201 Main Street

Dickinson, N.D. - Tuesday, March 28, at the Parks and Recreation building, 2004 Fairway Street

Mandan, N.D. - Wednesday, March 29, at the Seven Seas Inn and Conference Center, 2611 Old Red Trail

Each meeting is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The meetings are an open house format and you may choose to attend during either of the times offered.

The development of an RMP for the reservoir is to provide the framework that will enable managers to make sound land use and resource management decisions that are consistent with overall management objectives, minimize conflicts among uses and have public support.

The Bureau of Reclamation is seeking public input on future development, expansion or modification of recreation facilities at Lake Tschida. In the future, pending funding and the identification of a managing partner, it may be feasible to modify and/or expand the facilities.

Facilities and management topics such as operation of the dam and multiple use management of the lands such as the weed control and grazing program will not be the focus of this meeting.
