For Release: March 10, 2006

The Bureau of Reclamation has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Needles-Topock Bankline Stabilization Project, as required by the National Environmental Policy Act and Reclamation regulations. The proposed action will prevent further erosion of a 2-mile portion of the bankline along the Arizona side of the Colorado River on the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge near Needles, California.

As part of the work, Reclamation will place rock, gravel, and river cobble along the sloped river banks, and will plant native willow and cottonwood trees along the upper bank.

Copies of the EA and draft Finding of No Significant Impact are available for public review at www.usbr.gov/lc/yuma or can be obtained by request from Ms. Dedina Williams, Bureau of Reclamation, Yuma Area Office, 7301 Calle Agua Salada, Yuma, AZ 85364; phone: 928-343-8139 or E-mail: dwilliams@lc.usbr.gov. Comments will be accepted at the addresses above for 30 days after the publication of this notice.
