A draft Environmental Assessment on a proposed transfer of 200 acre-feet of Central Arizona Project water from Berneil Water Company to the Cave Creek Water Company is now available for public review and comment.

The water service areas of both companies are located in Maricopa County, Arizona. If the transfer is approved, the existing allotment of 1,600 acre-feet of CAP water to Cave Creek Water Co. will increase to 1,800 acre-feet. The water company indicates it would use the additional supply to irrigate a golf course within its service area or would treat, deliver and use it as a potable water supply. No new treatment and delivery facilities would be needed.

The EA describes existing conditions in the water service areas and any environmental impacts that could result from the proposed transfer. Based upon the analysis conducted, Reclamation anticipates a Finding of No Significant Impact. However, prior to making a final decision, public comments and concerns will be considered.

A copy of the draft EA can be obtained by calling Reclamations Environmental Resource Management Division at 623-773-6251, e-mailing rkonst@lc.usbr.gov , or downloading it from the Area Office website at http://www.usbr.gov/lc/phoenix/

Comments should be mailed to Bruce Ellis at the Bureau of Reclamation, Phoenix Area Office, PXAO-1500, 6150 West Thunderbird Rd., Glendale AZ 85306-4001or faxed to (623) 773-6481, no later than March 31, 2006.
