Before preparing a draft Environmental Assessment on a proposal by the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department to build a new marina at Lake Pleasant, the Bureau of Reclamation is seeking public input on the issues and concerns that should be addressed in that document.

The proposed marina would be constructed on approximately 164 acres of land at Scorpion Bay on the western shore of Lake Pleasant Regional Park. It would be a full service marina with a boating supply store; 800 wet slips; parking for up to 800 vehicles; public access boat launch ramp; and a building for boat storage and repairs.

A marina complex was included in the 1996 Lake Pleasant Regional Park Master Recreation Plan. The plan was developed to address replacement of recreation facilities that were lost due to Reclamations construction of New Waddell Dam and the subsequent expansion of Lake Pleasant to function as a part of the Central Arizona Project. The environmental assessment on anticipated impacts of the Master Recreation Plan indicated that a separate EA would be required prior to construction of the marina to address such issues as biological resources, cultural resources and land use/recreation.

The public is invited to send in comments regarding any other issues and concerns that should be addressed in the EA.

The full Notice of Public Scoping including Figure 1, map of Lake Pleasant Regional Park indicating the project area, can be viewed on the Phoenix Area Office website at http://www.usbr.gov/lc/phoenix/ or a hard copy can be obtained by calling the Environmental Resource Management Division at 623-773-6251 or e-mailing rkonst@lc.usbr.gov . Questions regarding the scoping notice may be directed to Sandra Eto at 623-773-6254. Comments should be mailed to Eto at the Bureau of Reclamation, Phoenix Area Office, PXAO-1500, 6150 West Thunderbird Rd., Glendale AZ 85306-4001or faxed to (623) 773-6481, no later than March 24, 2006.
