For Release: February 13, 2006

The Bureau of Reclamation announces the availability of the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the annexation of lands and contract assignment from Broadview Water District (Broadview) to Westlands Water Distribution District (Westlands).

The proposed action is the inclusion of approximately 9,700 acres of land and full contract assignment, with Westlands permanently assuming Broadviews rights and obligations under the contract being assigned. The Broadview contract provides for an entitlement of 27,000 acre-feet of water per year. The approval of assigning Broadviews contract to Westlands would allow for Broadviews contract supply to be used within Westlandsservice area, which will include the former lands within Broadview.

The Draft EA was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and is available for a 30-day public review and comment period. The Draft EA is available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/index.cfm; click on the SCCAO link.

Written comments on the Draft EA must be submitted by close of business March 14, 2006, and should be mailed to: Ms. Lynne Silva, Bureau of Reclamation, 1243 N Street, Fresno, CA 93721, or faxed to 559-487-5397, or e-mailed to lsilva@mp.usbr.gov.
