For Release: February 03, 2006

The Bureau of Reclamation has released a draft Environmental Assessment on Temporary Contracting in the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project to the public for review. Comments on the draft are due back to Reclamation by February 24, 2006.

During years that Pueblo Reservoir does not fill with Fryingpan-Arkansas Project water, the remaining "excess capacity" space is contracted to other entities for storage or exchange of non-project water. Included in the Draft EA is an analysis of the direct, indirect, and cumulative effects of issuing one-year agreements over a five year period from 2006 to 2010.

After a public meeting in September, agencies, governmental entities, and the general public submitted comments during the open comment period. Reclamation used those comments to focus and shape the analysis in the Draft EA.

Visit Reclamation's website at www.usbr.gov/gp/nepa/quarterly.cfm to view a copy of the Draft EA. To receive the Draft EA in hard copy, on CD, or for additional information, please contact Kara Lamb with Reclamations Eastern Colorado Area office at (970) 962-4326.
