BOULDER CITY, NEVADA – The Bureau of Reclamation awarded $146,121 in grant funding to a tribe, a water district and a non-profit through its WaterSMART Water Conservation Field Services Program to deliver support to projects in Arizona, California and Utah. This funding will be leveraged to accomplish almost $339,000 in water conservation planning activities.

“Improving water efficiency is an important part of ensuring communities have a reliable water supply in the future,” said Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Burman. “Through WaterSMART, Reclamation leverages federal and non-federal funding to increase water supply reliability by investing in existing infrastructure and attention to local water conflicts.”

Projects selected for the grant awards include:

• $76,121 for the design of a reservoir by the Colorado River Indian Tribes in Parker, Arizona. The completed project will deliver enhanced irrigation water control/management. The total cost of the project is $173,042.

• $45,000 for a water system optimization review for the Bard Water District in Winterhaven, California. The project will take a broad review of the district’s entire delivery system and assist in delivering future infrastructure upgrades and water conservation planning activities. The total cost of the project is $115,500.

• $25,000 for the development of a water management and conservation plan for the Washington County Water Conservancy District, located in St. George, Utah. The plan will evaluate new measures to meet Utah's mandated 14 percent reduction of water use by 2030. The total cost of the project is $50,000.

Reclamation established the WCFSP in 1996 to proactively encourage water conservation in the operations of recipients of water from federal water projects and to assist agricultural and urban water districts in preparing and implementing water conservation plans in accordance with the Reclamation Reform Act of 1982. The program is managed by each of Reclamation’s regional offices.
