OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Bureau of Reclamation awarded a construction contract $1.98 million to Big C Construction LLC, of Skiatook, Oklahoma, for recreation improvements at Lake Thunderbird State Park, part of Reclamation’s Norman Project in central Oklahoma.

The contract will support the development of new day-use facilities, a playground and upgrades to accessible parking and sidewalks at the Little Sandy Recreation Area. These improvements are designed to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and enhance the visitor experience.

Located near Oklahoma City, the Norman Project delivers significant public benefits including flood control, municipal and industrial water supply, and recreation. The project provides a reliable water source benefiting over 150,000 residents of Norman, Midwest City, Del City and Moore.

The Norman Project, completed in the 1960s, encompasses Norman Dam and Lake Thunderbird. It also delivers flood control along the Little River and supports diverse recreational activities, including boating, fishing, swimming, and camping.

Lake Thunderbird is among the top three most visited Reclamation reservoirs in the nation and remains a vital component of both regional infrastructure and outdoor tourism for the region.
