BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The Bureau of Reclamation today announced the appointment of Genevieve Johnson as new Lower Colorado Basin Region deputy regional director.

“Genevieve brings a diverse background and results-oriented approach to the Deputy Regional Director position,” said Regional Director Jacklynn (Jaci) L. Gould. “Her experience and perspective will be invaluable as the region continues to collaborate with Tribes, states and water districts to develop long-term, sustainable Colorado River System operations.”

With nearly 20 years in federal service, Johnson has gained significant experience addressing complex environmental and water resource challenges. She joined Reclamation in 2012 and most recently served as the manager of the Lower Colorado Basin Region Project and Program Office where she was responsible for Native American activities related to fulfilling Tribal trust responsibilities, environmental restoration, and infrastructure projects to increase Colorado River System conservation.

She played a crucial role in providing operational leadership and facilitating the development of the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement to the 2007 Interim Guidelines, bringing together key stakeholders to establish short-term operating guidelines to bridge Colorado River System operations through 2026.

As Deputy Regional Director, she oversees the Boulder Canyon Operations Area Office, the Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program, the Project and Program Office, and the Phoenix Area Office.

Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science in Conservation Biology and a Master of Science in Urban and Environmental Planning from Arizona State University.
