FRESNO, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation today announced the selection of Rain Emerson to assume the role of deputy area manager for the South-Central California Area Office for the California-Great Basin Region.

The role will serve as a deputy to the SCCAO area manager and advise on planning, coordinating, managing and directing of program activities. The office encompasses the San Francisco Bay-Delta, San Joaquin Valley, and the south coast area including Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

Emerson previously served in two leadership roles for SCCAO; the first being chief of the environmental compliance branch, and most recently as the chief of the contract/repayment administration branch responsible for evaluation, preparation, negotiation and administration of water service contracts.

“Rain’s selection for this leadership position reflects her technical skillset, ability to learn quickly, and proven leadership,” said SCCAO Area Manager Michael Jackson. “Our contractors often provide their unsolicited accolades of appreciation for her efforts.”

Emerson began with Reclamation in 2009 as an intern in the Federal Career Internship Program in Fresno, California. She will begin her official duties as the deputy area manager in-mid May.

Emerson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Women’s Studies with a minor in Peace and Conflict Studies, and a Master of Science degree in Biology from California State University Fresno.
