SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation’s California-Great Basin Region today announced the selection of Alan Heck as the new manager for the Klamath Basin Area Office located in Klamath Falls, OR. Heck will oversee operations and maintenance of the Klamath Project, which includes nine dams, 19 canals, and three major pumping plants.

“We are very pleased to announce that Alan has transitioned to permanent manager overseeing the hardworking and dedicated staff in our Klamath Basin Area Office,” said Deputy Regional Director Jeff Payne. “Alan began acting in this role a year ago, effectively covering multiple roles ever since. His selection reflects the leadership and dedication that he has demonstrated over this year. We look forward to advancing our many priorities in the Klamath Basin under his continued guidance, including the backfill of several leadership positions in the office.”

Mr. Heck has served as the Acting Area Manager for the Klamath Basin Area Office since January 2023. Prior to Reclamation, Mr. Heck served as the Host Nation Program Coordinator for Marine Forces Japan managing joint-nation construction projects throughout Japan. He was also the lead engineer for the Department of Defense Education Activity Pacific Region where he was responsible for a $3 billion+ military construction program that covered the U.S. Pacific Command in support of the Alliance Transformation and Realignment Agreement.

Heck holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geomatics from the University of Florida, a Master Certificate in Project Management from St. Regis University, and is a registered engineer in Georgia. Mr. Heck is fluent in Japanese and holds a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
