FOLSOM, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation’s Central California Area Office is designating the Folsom South Canal as a Special Use Area to implement altered public use restrictions in areas where the action is necessary or for public health and safety.
The Folsom South Canal and its adjoining trail provide recreational access for pedestrians and cyclists. The canal and trail have also experienced heavy use by visitors exceeding overnight limits on Reclamation lands. The extended stays have caused problems such as fires, illegal weapon use, dumping, littering, and abandoning property.
Effective April 25, 2022, the following use rules on the Folsom South Canal and trail take effect:
- Use of the paved multi-use trail running alongside the canal from mile 0.3 (Hazel Avenue and Gold Country Boulevard) to mile 13.9 (north side of Sloughhouse Road) is authorized.
- All human caused activities such as fires, camping, dumping, littering, swimming, fishing, are prohibited.
- Being upon the concrete canal liner, fences or any other constructed features on federal land is prohibited.
- All weapons as defined by 43 CFR 423, including firearms, are prohibited.
- All other unauthorized use and occupancy of Reclamation lands in the following township, range, and sections is prohibited. All township and range citations are using the Mount Diablo Principal Meridian.
