Michael Frary was born in Santa Monica in 1918 and studied at the University of Southern California where he received a BA in architecture and a Master of Fine Arts in painting. He also attended the Academe Grande Chaumiere in Paris. He taught at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, UCLA, San Antonio Art Institute, and the University of Texas. Frary is the recipient of numerous awards, and his works are featured in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution, Santa Barbara Museum, Butler Institute of American Art, and the Dallas Museum of Fine Art.
