The Mission Assurance and Protection Organization plays an instrumental role in the wellbeing of our employees and stakeholders, the efficacy and soundness of our infrastructure, the implementation of Reclamation law and compliance with environmental laws. The directorate enables Reclamation to carry out its mission with consistency and transparency to its customers and the public. The Mission Assurance and Protection Organization achieves this through programs and activities across 5 divisions: Design, Estimating, and Construction, Environmental Compliance, Preparedness, Reclamation Law Administration, and Security.

Design, Estimating, and Construction oversight programs provide technical support, advice, review, and study related to, most often, Reclamation’s construction-type projects. The office also hosts the Department of the Interior’s Dam Safety Officer, who provides comprehensive oversight for all dam safety functions at Reclamation, the National Park Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement.     Natural and Cultural Resources Division

    The Natural and Cultural Resources Division guides the implementation and development of agency-wide environmental programs and serves as trusted advisors to both leadership and the field. Our team supports Reclamation’s mission to operate in an environmentally sound manner and ensures project successes by increasing transparency and predictability in environmental review and compliance processes.     The Preparedness Division focuses on Reclamation’s ability to reduce and prevent risks, educate and prepare staff to address unplanned incidents, and develop and implement plans to resume normal operations following unexpected events.     The Reclamation Law Administration Division is responsible for the development, coordination, and consistent application of Federal laws, with emphasis on Federal reclamation law, regulations, and related Reclamation Manual policy and directives and standards. The division provides a vital link between regional/field operations, Reclamation leadership, and Departmental offices addressing title transfer, contracts and repayment, incidental revenues, regulatory affairs and compliance, programmatic internal control, coordination of the Reclamation Manual, and planning and economic issues.     Security Division

    The Security Office guides Reclamation’s protection of people and physical assets and works together with regional and field organizations to secure and safeguard critical infrastructure. The office leads comprehensive security management, including law enforcement coordination, guards and patrols oversight, risk-based security assessments, personnel security, and intelligence support.
