Court Sheriff Campground - Canyon Ferry Reservoir
June 2006
On November 09, 2005 Great Plains Regional Director Michael J. Ryan announced a $541,520 contract was awarded to Spaulding Construction Company of Stevensville, Mont., to rehabilitate Court Sheriff Campground at Canyon Ferry Reservoir. Work on the campground consisted of roadway and campsite layout, earthwork, paving and chip sealing roadways and campsites and placing pavement markings. Work began later in the month. The campground was closed to public use on November 1 and reopened this Spring. The campground is located on the northeast shore of the lake about 15 miles east of Helena.
The renovation work is nearly complete, but the contractor will not be working again until after July 4th. Currently Court Sheriff is open 7 days a week. Three items remain to be completed: chip sealing, road striping, and placement of curb stops in the campsites and parking areas. The campground will need to be closed during the time this work is taking place. It is estimated that the campground will be closed for 2 days for chip sealing, and 1 day for striping and placement of curb stops. There will need to be 2 separate closures because the striping cannot take place until after the chip seal has set for several days and the excess chips are swept off. Both closures will take place in the middle of the week when there is less camping demand.
